Egypt: Temple of Philae (Aswan)

While we were in Aswan we stopped at the Temple of Philae. It is actually located between the Aswan High Dam and the original Aswan Dam that was first built by the British 100 years ago. In fact, it was actually moved brick by brick from another island that would have been flooded by the new Aswan Dam.

It is actually one of the newer Temples in Egypt - it dates from around 300BC, after Egypt was conquered by Alexander the Great - and the country was no longer rules by Egyptian pharoahs but Greek Kings that all seemed to be called Ptolemy.
