Egypt: Mohamed Ali Mosque (Cairo)

One of the major differences between the places that I've been (France, Germany, US, Italy, etc.) and Egypt is that the dominant religion in Egypt is not Christianity, but Islam.

With Christianity, we have churches. With Judaism, we have synagogues. And with Islam, we have mosques - and perhaps one of the most famous in Cairo is the Mohamed Ali Mosque. They sometimes call it the Alabaster mosque, because the outside is covered in a mineral called alabaster.
Inside the Mosque we saw a beautiful ceiling painted in gold - along with a chandelier (think: big dining room table light).

There is actually a funny story about the chandelier - the Egyptians actually got it from France in exchange for an obelisk that now sits in the middle of Paris, called the Place de la Concorde. More on that story later...
