Egypt: The Sphinx (Giza)

OK, second most famous image of Egypt is probably the Sphinx, which is the huge statue of a body of a lion and the head of a pharoah. They suspect the Sphinx was built to protect the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Ann interesting fact is that the Pyramid complex is on the West Side of the Nile (where the sun sets), so back in Ancient times, the west side of the Nile is where the Egyptians went to bury their dead - no one actually lived there. Now of course, lots of people live there, but back then it was completely deserted.
