Egypt: Getting There
Did you ever hear of the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" ? Well, I think we took every form of transportation known to man in the past eight days.We first drove from Strasbourg to Frankfurt, Germany. And then we took a plane to Cairo in the northern part of the country. After spending a day there, we took an overnight train (meaning, the train had beds) to Aswan in the south of the country. From there we took a boat along the river Nile for three days, until we finally ended up in Luxor, which is about in the middle of the country. From there, we took a van across the Eastern desert to Hurghada on the Red Sea. And then finally after spending a couple of days there, we took a big bus up to the Suez Canal and back across the desert to Cairo. From there, it was all downhill - another plane back to Frankfurt and a drive from there back to Strasbourg. Whew.
Along the way we could have taken a camel ride in the desert, a horse drawn carriage through a city, and sailboat across the Nile - but quite frankly, we didn't have time . . . and you'll see why . . .
