Egypt: The Great Pyramids (Giza)

I suppose if there is one thing in Egypt that everyone pictures in their mind, it has got to be the Great Pyramids of Giza. And that was one of the first stops when we arrived in Cairo.

First of all, the Pyramids are NOT out in the middle of the desert, like most people think. In fact, the city that the Pyramids are in, Giza, is actually a suburb of Cairo. The city of Cairo has grown so much (current population is now 20 million people), that the city has actually grown AROUND the pyramids. I really need to find a way to put video on this blog site, because I have a cool movie where I made one big circle in front of the Pyramids. From there you can see the pyramids, but then if you turn around a little you can also see a Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Second, one (not all three) of the Pyramids is considered the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World. Even though the one pyramid, Khufu Pyramid, is as big as one of the others, it is built with a much higher level of quality - so that is the only one that is considered a wonder. Don't get me wrong, the other two are equally amazing. And when you figure that they were built 4000 years ago - they are all really cool.

Third, you can actually go into the Pyramids. We actually went into the second one and saw the tomb of the pharoah who built it.

Fourth, it was REALLY cool !!!
